Join the Pipe - Water bottle - I
There are about a bajillion reasons why this is a cool product, it's hard to know where to start. First off: bottled water freaking sucks, there's just no way around it. There are just so many reasons why, but we could probably start with the 300,000+ barrels of oil it takes in Australia every year to package, ship and refrigerate a product that is already piped to just about every single house and business for next to nothing. Factor in the the 1 billion people across the globe who don't have access to fresh water and things start to look a bit ridiculous.
At the beginning of 2009 two friends living in the Netherlands decided to try and stamp out bottled water consumption while also helping re-distribute water in a fairer way. And, fast forward a year later, and in conjunction with Dutch design agency DwarsOntwerp they created this neat selection of water bottles called Join The Pipe.
For every single bottle purchased $7.50 gets donated directly to support water development projects in the Third World. In fact, each bottle comes with an insert showing the geographic coordinates of the well that the purchase of that particular bottle is helping. Cool, eh? Look 'em up on Google maps.
